At one time Dan River Mills was the largest textile mill in
the south. Raw cotton entered the plant on one end and the finished
product exited the plant on the other. I recently learned about Dan
River and started making inquiries to gain access to the facility.
Last Friday was the long awaited day, with many of the buildings now de-constructed.
In this process materials such as brick and lumber are salvaged and
repurposed. The plant has been undergoing this process for the last 5
years. I wish I had known of this at the start, what a great
project it would have been to document this process.
But nonetheless gaining access to this facility was a thrill
and I hope to return soon.
